New York based indie-dance band Estate and Tokyo based band, Liquid Pegasus just released a 3-D gif music video for their single Tendency. The piece was shot by Josh Johnson on a Nimslo, one of the first consumer level three dimensional cameras to hit the market. Each exposure shoots 4 images from slightly different angles across the space of 2 full 35 mm exposures. The end result is pretty cool.
Austin McCormick's Company XIV and The St. At Large have put together a titillating evening of nipple pasties, opera singers, circus performers, jock straps, confetti, and dancers all for the holiday season! Nutcracker Rouge is a Baroque-Burlesque rendition of the traditional ballet that has Balanchine rolling in his grave, and audience members dancing in their pants. The show runs through January 5, 2014, if you are in town you should check it out.
Last night, Tanisha Scott auditioned hundreds of kids, ages 6-13, for the 16 competitive spots on the 2014 Brooklyn Nets Kids Dance Team and it was incredible. The Lincoln Center's Out of Doors series opened its five day celebration of the Kronos Quartet's 40th anniversary yesterday afternoon with the Mark Dendy Dance & Theater Projects company bathing in the Paul Milstein Pool. If you are interested in seeing dancers in wet white costumes, be at the Hearst Plaza tonight at 6 P.M. If you are lucky, the bottle-collecting homeless woman will be in attendance again tonight with an encore performance of her 'death.' Details on other free performances at The Lincoln Center are here.
I have no pictures of the 300 people that showed up to Avenue on Thursday after for Absolut's second Lunch Break—I was too busy dancing to shoot. Questlove played an hour long set that was almost entirely Stevie Wonder, which was incredible. On my way out they handed me a bagged lunch with an excellent PB&J and a banana. Not a bad way to spend a lunch hour.
